He also took a moment to thank the public for the care which has been shown towards himself and Queen Camilla over the past year, which was also his first as monarch.

"I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all," King Charles added.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also penned a personal message to mark one year since Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

Sharing a selection of photographs on their joint official Instagram page, Prince William and Kate wrote, "Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you. W & C."

Included in the images was a heartwarming photo of the late Queen sitting surrounded by many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including the Prince and Princess of Wales' three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Another of Queen Elizabeth II's grandchildren, Princess Eugenie, also joined the tributes, sharing a sweet photograph sitting alongside the late Queen on a bench in a sunny garden.

The Princess said she was missing her grandmother "so much but remembering what a life of service, love and dedication to everyone and to your family, who loved you so very much."

Eugenie ended the post with a sweet message, saying, "Forever grateful to you. And always in my heart."
