Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has confirmed he will miss some of the group dances for the upcoming series of the show.

Preparations for the 21st series of the BBC show are firmly underway, with the group routines often being filmed before the live episodes in order to give the professionals more time with their celebrity partners.

Pernice, however, will not be a part of all the group dances following an ankle injury, which he sustained during a performance on his current tour with Strictly judge Anton Du Beke.

“Hi everyone – just a quick update,” began Pernice in a video on his Instagram account. “As you probably know, I’m on tour at the moment with Anton. During one of the dances, I twisted my ankle on stage – I’ve been to the physio today and he advised me to rest for a few weeks.

“This means I’m not going to be able to dance at the weekend – I know a few people are coming – but I will still be there to entertain all of you with Anton… This also means I’m going to miss a few of the professional Strictly group numbers.

“I just need to give some rest to my ankle and come back stronger than ever for the upcoming series of Strictly, which I’m really looking forward to. Sending lots of love to everyone out there – stay strong,” he added.

Whilst Pernice will miss a few of the dazzling routines, former Strictly professional Kevin Clifton recently revealed that he and partner Stacey Dooley disagreed over the prospect of their daughter Minnie following in his footsteps.

“I don't want Minnie to dance; it's too competitive a world. I would rather she do something else – anything else,” he said, before Stacey added: “I think she's going to have rhythm because, of course, Kev can dance. I would love her to dance.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
