Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a heartwarming post revealing she surprised her fellow professionals following her second cancer diagnosis.

The dancer revealed last week that she had been diagnosed with another type of cancer, which comes after she learned a few months ago that she has breast cancer.

This means that she will be absent from this year's series of Strictly – though Amy seemed in high spirits as she managed to make an unexpected visit to the pros' rehearsals.

Sharing a group picture on Instagram yesterday (July 24), Amy wrote: "I surprised the gang! Just what I needed! Seeing the @bbcstrictly family!

"Going to be an amazing series and I can't wait to watch you all shine and be with you all when I can! #strictlyfamily #justwhatineeded #keepdancing".

Many of her fellow dancers shared their support for Amy in the comments, with Dianne Buswell and Katya Jones posting red heart emojis, the latter adding: "She sneaked in in true Amy style!!!".

Nancy Xu wrote: "My darling girl", while Janette Manrara added: "What an amazing gang!!".

Revealing her second cancer diagnosis on Instagram Live to breast cancer survivor Erin Kennedy, Amy recently explained: "I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.

"But then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours. My pathology wasn't what they were expecting, and they found another type of cancer and then they told me I needed chemo – for me that was a massive blow.

"It wasn't in the plan, originally – and I know the plan you can't get fixated on. So, all of a sudden, then I realised, and you get scared, but the oncologist did say that with chemo I've got a really good chance of a cure," she added.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
