First Dates matchmaker Fred Sirieix has disclosed that the well-being of the romance seekers is one of his top priorities on the show.
The popular Channel 4 dating show first aired in 2013, with maître d'hôtel Fred among its original cast members.
The star has revealed that he was "conscious" of what he would be signing up for on the show and that he didn't want to be attached to anything that would make contestants look or feel bad.
"I was always very conscious of what I would be entering into," he told The Mirror.
"I didn't want to be on the television for the sake of being on television. I wanted to make sure nobody was going to be made to look bad."
He added: "I wouldn't say I had second thoughts, it's just that you don't want to jump in with two feet when you don't know. I want to know the people I am working with had a clear vision and that their values are aligned with mine. Life is short."
Fred has been a staple of the show and its spin-off series and a hit with the nation.
He has appeared on numerous shows, including Gordon, Gino & Fred's Road Trip, The World Cook and Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and has been a guest on multiple podcasts.
Fred divulged that the decision to join the dating show did take some time.
He said: "It took me a while to decide. I had so many different meetings and a lot of considerations. Thankfully, it was genuine and authentic, and people love it.
"It was a world I knew, and no acting involved – just me being me, running a restaurant and getting on with people."
He went on: "I think the show makes people realise they are not alone. Life is difficult for all of us. When you think it is hard, listen to someone else's story."
First Dates airs on Channel 4.
