Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt received an emotional text from his daughter during the live show, bringing him close to tears.

Interrupting the BBC show to share some personal news, Matt told viewers at home and everyone in the studio the good news he had received from his daughter.

After airing a clip that featured chef Marcus Wareing making an al fresco Eton Mess, the cameras cut back to the studio where Matt could be seen holding his smartphone.

"Thanks for that Marcus, that was all well and good, I loved your Eton Mess but, to be honest, I have just had a text from my daughter. Proud dad moment, she got a First from university!"

Among the guests on the show were Countryfile and Strictly Come Dancing star Anita Rani, who cheered and clapped and the happy news.

"So well done Jess, congratulations," Matt said as he put his hand to his chest and became emotional while thanking the studio audience for their applause.

When the applause died down, the presenter apologised for his interruption saying: "Thanks for that. Yeah sorry about taking over TV for my own gain. Right, let's get back to the script."
