The Repair Shop favourite Jay Blades has another three-part Channel 5 docuseries coming our way, titled The Midlands Through Time.

Following on from Jay Blades: East End Through Time, this new series sees the furniture restorer dissecting the extraordinary history of his West Midlands home.

He'll cross through Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and beyond on his travels, uncovering the fascinating backstory of an area that has profoundly affected the development of the UK – from the industrial revolution to the theory of evolution.

He'll also look at the area's contribution to the popularity of the balti, its contribution to Olympics history, and the iconic Wedgwood homewares firm.

"Everyone thinks of Cadbury's chocolate, canals and Peaky Blinders when you say Birmingham and those things are true but also so much more," said Blades in a statement.

"I've lived in the West Midlands since 2015. It's often overlooked but the reality is that without the humble West Midlands, the history of the UK, indeed the world would not have been the same.

"Filming has been fascinating, surprising and eye-opening in equal measures – I love Birmingham and the Black Country. Sharing this series with you will be an utter pleasure and a tribute to the place I am proud to call home."

Meanwhile, Channel 5/Paramount+ non-scripted UK originals commissioning editor Daniel Pearl went on to comment: "Jay has the most incredible ability to unpack history in a way that brings stories alive for the viewer.

"His friendly charm and insightful exploration of the areas so close to him personally, make him hugely popular with viewers and we're delighted to be exploring the powerhouse region of the West Midlands with him."

Jay Blades: The Midlands Through Time will air on Channel 5 at a later date.
