Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke, Katya Jones and Graziano Di Prima have signed on for a new DIY SOS The Big Build special.

The dancing trio are set to lend a hand to help the Newcastle-based Performing Arts school True Colours, refurbishing a new space that can accommodate their ever-growing membership.

True Colours teaches dance and theatre skills to 500 children and young adults on a weekly basis, of whom a large number have disabilities and learning needs, and is the brainchild of founder Alisar-Jane.

She was inspired to start the project after dance helped her through an adulthood diagnosis of ADHD and autism, as well as her niece being diagnosed with a life-limiting condition as a toddler.

With the expanding list of potential members, they have outgrown their existing space, and while they now own an old boys club that has potential to accomodate them, currently it has no electricity, heating, natural light or disabled access.

With limited funds, it seems the DIY SOS team are here to step in and make True Colours' dreams come true.

“What Alisar-Jane and her team is doing is very special," Anton said. "Myself, Katya and Graziano understand the power of dance and how it brings people together. This could really transform not just the building but the community too.

"We are thrilled to help out and bring some Strictly magic to the proceedings. And who knows, we may see a future Strictly star in our midst!”

Presenter Nick Knowles added: “We’re back, and what a way to kick off the Big Build with a brilliant group of Strictly stars that will inspire and delight the children, young adults and staff from True Colours.

"This Performing Arts School really needs a transformation, they do an excellent job in Wallsend and if we can help them grow so they can accept more students, then we’re going to go above and beyond.”

DIY SOS The Big Build will air later this year on BBC One. Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
