Strictly Come Dancing stars Dan Walker and Helen Skelton have been confirmed as hosts of a new travel series for Channel 5.
The four-part show has a working title of Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure and will see the pair explore the Pennine Way, a 268-mile long route that’s one of the UK’s most famous long-distance walks.
Pennine Adventure will see Dan and Helen meet people that live and work on the trail, as well as uncovering hidden gems in the surrounding areas.
The route is Britain’s first National Trail and “follows England’s rocky spine from the hills of the Derbyshire Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales, through the stunning Swaledale Valley, across the North Pennines and over Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland to the Cheviot Hills, ending in the Scottish Borders in Kirk Yetholm".
In a statement announcing the show, Dan said: "I am really looking forward to making this series with Helen. I can’t wait to get out there and explore the Pennines.
"It will be nice to escape the studio for a while and join a good friend to discover a beautiful slice of the UK and meet some amazing people along the way. They promised me there would be food to taste too!"
Helen went on to say she was “grateful for the opportunity to have some incredible adventures with my friend, Dan”.
Speaking about the pairing, Channel 5's commissioning editor for factual entertainment Daniel Pearl said that their “friendship, talent and sense of adventure will bring a unique perspective as they take our audience on an immersive journey through the diverse landscapes and towns of the Pennine Way".
A release date for Channel 5’s Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure has yet to be announced. Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
