The Queen Consort has met with Joseph Coelho, the UK's Children’s Laureate, to mark World Poetry Day, which takes place on 21 March.
In a video shared to The Royal Family's official social media account in collaboration with BookTrust, Camilla can be seen discussing the importance of children learning poetry. Alongside a clip from the conversation between the Queen Consort and the Children’s Laureate, a caption reads: "Happy #WorldPoetryDay!
"We recently brought together The Queen Consort and Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho to talk about the joys and benefits of learning poetry."
The video shows a short clip of the conversation — in which the pair discuss the benefits of children learning poetry. In the clip, Camilla can be heard saying: "Learning poetry, it gives them confidence. If somebody can actually learn a poem, and stand up in front of an audience and recite it, I mean, you're halfway there, aren't you?". Joseph then replies: "Yeah, and that's a skill for life."
The full interview between the Queen Consort and the Children's Laureate is available via BookTrust's website. Explaining the reasons behind the conversation, Book Trust says: "To celebrate World Poetry Day, we brought together The Queen Consort, a BookTrust supporter, and Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho to talk about their mutual love of poetry, the joy of reading poems out loud and Joseph’s aim to get all children reading and writing poetry through his Poetry Prompts weekly videos."
World Poetry Day takes place on 21 March every year and celebrates the importance and power of poetry.
