Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has confirmed its release date with a first-look trailer.
The prequel to the Netflix series, which is created by Shonda Rhimes, depicts the life of a young Charlotte (India Amarteifio) as she rises to power.
The description for the series notes that the story will show "how the young Queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton".
The six-episode season will premiere on Netflix on 4 May, with Rhimes unveiling the release date and trailer during a global fan event. The one-minute teaser hints at Charlotte and George's blossoming relationship, as they face pressure from within to "secure their position" on the throne.
Reprising their roles from the parent series are Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton). The new cast includes Michelle Fairley, Corey Mylchreest and Arsema Thomas, with the trio playing Princess Augusta, King George and Agatha Danbury respectively.
With the prequel due to air later this year, the third season of the parent show is currently filming, but Phoebe Dynevor revealed that she won't be making an appearance as Daphne Basset in the upcoming episodes.
"Sadly [I'm] not in season 3. Potentially in the future. I'm just excited to watch as a viewer," she said. Another actor who won't be appearing is Ruby Stokes, with Hannah Dodd taking over the role of Francesca.
Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen is also reportedly collaborating with Netflix on another series, with the showrunner set to adapt Adam Silvera's bestselling novel, They Both Die At the End.
Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix. Season 3 is in production. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will premiere on 4 May.
