Davina McCall shared her inspiring take on the menopause on Friday, 14 October. The presenter was speaking to an audience at Good Housekeeping Live, in partnership with Dyson.
Chatting to Good Housekeeping's Editor-in-Chief, Gaby Huddart, Davina shared how she's seeing the menopause as her "second spring." Talking candidly, Davina said: "So many people see midlife as being the autumn of our lives. Our kids have grown up, life is changing and we're dealing with so much emotionally.
"However, I think considering this time as a 'second spring' is just lovely. This is our time. I'm not just a mum, a colleague or a partner. I am a woman. We all have a story and this part of our lives is about sharing that experience and embracing this time."
While Davina's take on the menopause was refreshing and inspiring, she also shared it hasn't always been easy for her. "At age 44, I was dealing with so much," she told the audience of Good Housekeeping readers. "My memory fog was so bad, I couldn't remember people's names. I was anxious and I cried at work. A lot of the menopause is tied-up with shame, we feel like we just need to 'get on with it' but in actual fact I wasn't fine at all — I was knocked for six."
However, the star shared that since starting HRT, she's been feeling much better, and now she wants to talk about the menopause to encourage other women to speak up and educate those around her. "I want to reframe how menopausal women are viewed by society and reframe how HRT is seen by society," she says. "I want to rediscover myself and I want to continue to build my confidence."
