Legendary film composer John Williams performed a snippet from the soundtrack of the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie for a lucky crowd in Los Angeles last Friday.
Williams was performing his Maestro of the Movies concert at the Hollywood Bowl when he unveiled the first sound of Indiana Jones 5's soundtrack to the world. The track he played is called 'Helena's Theme', which is the musical theme for Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character. Up until now, no one knew what Waller-Bridge's character was called.
Indiana Jones 5 will be released next year and is directed by Logan's James Mangold. It was Mangold himself who encouraged Williams to perform the track at the Maestro of Movies concert.
"Jim said, 'Why don't you play it at the Bowl next week? I said, 'Jim! The picture's not coming out until next year," Williams told the audience. Apparently, Mangold was still supportive of the idea and told Williams: "That doesn't matter. Play it at the Bowl anyway."
Williams described Waller-Bridge's Helena as an "adventuress" and explained that the character's music theme will reflect this and her action-orientated spirit.
"She's also a femme fatale. She's many, many things. She has a kind of lyrical music like an old movie star, which she looks like, except she's young and beautiful and wonderful," Williams said.
"Here is 'Helena's Theme.' Like six months too early."
Williams then treated the crowd to the wonderful score, and they absolutely loved the early treat. Williams is one of cinema's most celebrated composers. He is the man responsible for the soundtracks of many iconic movies, including the original Indiana Jones films, the Star Wars films, the Harry Potter series, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Schindler's List, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and many more.
Williams has amassed an astounding 52 Oscar nominations across his decorated career, making him the second most nominated individual ever behind only Walt Disney. Williams has won five Oscars in total, for Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Schindler's List.
The equally amazing Waller-Bridge stars in the new Indiana Jones movie after the film and TV industry fell in love with her for the acclaimed TV series Fleabag and Killing Eve. Waller-Bridge won three Emmys for the former in 2019, taking home best comedy writing, best lead actress in a comedy and best comedy series.
Now, the incredible actress and writer will set the screen alight opposite Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones after she worked on Daniel Craig's last James Bond film, No Time to Die.
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on June 23, 2023.
