The Bridgerton universe is continuing to expand, thanks to a new Queen Charlotte-focused novel.
Last year, Netflix announced that a spin-off series on the character played by Golda Rosheuvel was in the works.
The idea of digging into the monarch's past must have been so intriguing that author Julia Quinn — the author of the Bridgerton book series — is working on a brand new volume on the sharp-tongued sovereign together with producer Shonda Rhimes.
"I'm especially thrilled to have the opportunity to write about Queen Charlotte, who was not in the original novels," the writer shared in a statement.
"Her character —and Golda Rosheuvel's brilliant portrayal of her— was a tour de force, and I think readers will love getting a chance to know her more deeply."
Rhimes also weighed in on writing the character for the show.
"Queen Charlotte has been such a moving character to write," the Grey's Anatomy creator said, adding that getting to work alongside Quinn is "an exciting opportunity."
"I can't wait for fans of this universe to read the story of a character that has resonated so deeply with our audience."
The producer is also behind the spin-off, in which Rosheuvel will reprise her role as the Queen, alongside Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton and Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury.
As for the main series, it has been confirmed that Bridgerton season three will skip ahead in the novel's timeline to focus on the romance between Penelope and Colin.
Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix. The spin-off series on Queen Charlotte is currently filming.
