Coronation Street's Sam Aston has confirmed the name of his and

wife Briony's newborn baby girl.

She arrived last month to complete their family of four; sister to little Sonny, who'll turn two this August.

Catching up with OK! magazine, the Astons officially introduced Daisy, which is a name they decided on several months ago.

"We've always liked it. It was one of the only names we both agreed on," said Sam.

"Once we knew we were having a girl we kept going back to it, so then halfway through the pregnancy we were like, 'Daisy it is!' and I bought all the personalised stuff," added Briony.

"She's Daisy Josephine. Josephine is a nod to Sam's brother Joe and my granddad Joe. Daisy is also the French name for Marguerite and my mum's mum is called Margaret, so it was a way to have both grandparents in there."

Daisy came into the world nine days later than the couple were expecting, and arrived following a three-hour water birth at the family home in Lancashire.

"It was euphoric. It was exactly what I wanted. I would do that every day of my life if I could!" said Briony. "Usually, a few days after giving birth your hormones level out and you start feeling the baby blues, but this time I still feel like I'm on a high."

Sam, whose Corrie character Chesney Brown endured a scare earlier this year when son Joseph went missing, described the experience as "amazing", before recalling how quickly it all went down.

"We're very lucky. It all happened so fast," he recalled. "We'd just had some tea and then I put the telly on to watch some football, but then all of a sudden I heard Briony upstairs..."

Thankfully, everything ran smoothly from there, with Briony's dad on hand to help fill the pool and watch over Sonny, while Sam and a midwife stayed with mum.

"I did want all twinkly lights and music, but then when it got to it I just wanted it to be really silent and I just had a few candles on. I just wanted to hear the sound of the water and listening to my breathing was relaxing enough," explained Briony.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
