Jerry Seinfeld has added Hugh Grant to the all-star cast for his movie directorial debut about the American pastry, Pop-Tarts.
The Paddington 2 star will join Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, and James Marsden for the Netflix project titled, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Meanwhile, Jack McBrayer, Tom Lennon, Adrian Martinez, Bobby Moynihan, Max Greenfield, Sarah Cooper and Christian Slater also round off the cast. Seinfeld, who has worked with the streaming service on his 23 Hours To Kill and Jerry Before Seinfeld stand-up specials and Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee series, will also appear in the movie.
The feature will be set in Michigan in 1963, and the logline describes it as: "Kellogg's and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen."
In case you don't know what they are, Pop-Tarts are incredibly popular in the US as they're a beloved breakfast dessert with different flavours like the basic strawberry and chocolate to unique flavours such as banana crème pie, fruit loops and s'mores.
As well as directing, Seinfeld wrote the script alongside Spike Feresten, Andy Robin and Barry Marder. No release date has yet been revealed.
The project is part of the streaming service's $60.3 million tax credits awarded by the California Film Commission, with the comedy legend expressing his joy about filming in LA.
"We are so happy to get the California tax credit which enables us to make our whole movie here," Seinfeld told Variety. "Having made all of the 'Seinfeld' series in LA, I very much wanted to come back and shoot there again. On behalf of everyone working on the movie, we really appreciate the great welcome."
