James Nesbitt has revealed he would appear on Strictly Come Dancing under one condition.
The actor, known for roles in Cold Feet, The Hobbit movies, Netflix's Stay Close and Line of Duty, now stars in a new Channel 4 drama Suspect.
Nesbitt told the Radio Times that in theory he "would love to do" the BBC One dance competition only if it wasn't televised.
"My daughters would love me to do that. And I would love to do it, but not for it to be on telly. I am very competitive," he said.
However, Nesbitt admitted that a samba would be more terrifying to him than any of the intense material in his latest crime thriller series.
"What was interesting about Suspect, as terrifying as it was, it also brought out the competitor in me. I was working with this incredible array of talent and I was scared into having to try and match them," he said.
"But the Strictly thing... I'm actually quite shy in a way. I love the Viennese waltz, I love all of that. I love the notion of the discipline of learning.
"The one that really scares me is the one with the bare chest. The samba or whatever. It must be the Presbyterian in me."
In the new series, Nesbitt takes on the role of a veteran detective Danny Frater, who has a horrific shock when he attends a routine ID check in the hospital mortuary.
When he sees the corpse, he realises it’s his estranged daughter Christina, who it seems has taken her own life.
Devastated and traumatised by the loss, Danny sets out to find out what really happened to his daughter by introducing himself to her friends and colleagues and seeing his ex-wife.
Nesbitt stars alongside Outlander's Sam Heughan, Sex Education's Anne-Marie Duff, and Loki's Richard E Grant in the series.
Suspect begins at 9pm on Sunday 19th June on Channel 4.
