Doctor Who's Neil Patrick Harris drops hints about 60th anniversary character

Neil Patrick Harris is dropping hints about his character in Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special.

The How I Met Your Mother actor was announced to be joining the festivities earlier this week by returning showrunner Russell T Davies, after previously working together on It's a Sin.

RTD hinted that The Doctor should "beware" of Harris's character, who looks to be wearing a work apron and giving a stern impression in a preview photo released by the BBC.

Harris added to assumptions that he will be a villain in Doctor Who in his reaction to joining the show's 60th anniversary celebrations.

"My current gig. Never looked more dashing," he wrote. "Thank you for inviting me into your Whoniverse, @russelltdavies63 . I'll try my hardest to do my worst. This Doctor has no idea what's in store. And even if he does… Who cares? Ha ha ha HA ha-ha-ha!"

Davies and the Doctor Who team are keeping tight-lipped on the character Harris will be playing, though his costuming certainly would fit in the realm of The Celestial Toymaker or The Land of Fiction from the classic show. Hmmm…

Next year's star-studded anniversary will also feature David Tennant and Catherine Tate returning as The Doctor and Donna Noble, along with Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney playing the mysteriously-named Rose.

Bernard Cribbins is also expected to return as Donna's grandfather Wilfred Mott, after being snapped on set last month.

Of course, Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa will also be taking the reigns of both time and space as the next Doctor in the TARDIS as part of the celebrations.

Doctor Who's next special premieres in Autumn 2022 on BBC One in the UK. In the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max.
