Laura Dern makes her long-awaited return as Dr Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World: Dominion – and it's actually a comeback that's been in the works for a while.
Dern was confirmed to return in September 2019 alongside Sam Neill's Dr Alan Grant and Jeff Goldblum's Dr Ian Malcolm. However, talking to Digital Spy, she explained that Ellie's comeback had started to be discussed when she was filming The Last Jedi.
"They had been speaking about it for some time. What would it look like? What do you think she would do for a living now? All those questions had started," Dern explained.
"I was making a Star Wars movie at Pinewood [and producer] Frank Marshall asked me to come for a visit, so that was my first re-entry back to a set with a raptor and his friends. We started having more and more conversation around it, and it seemed really exciting to me."
It's certainly exciting for fans too that Ellie has finally returned to the screen for the first time since a (brief) appearance in Jurassic Park III. The new movie is also the first Jurassic outing to bring the OG trio back together since the original movie.
You might have already got a bit teary-eyed watching the trailer, and it was just as emotional for the stars too.
"We sent a picture to Steven Spielberg the day the three of us were back together for the first time. We all were teary, it was very sweet and so fun," she recalled.
"Sam and I were inseparable pretty much for the whole film, that's such a beautiful love story through the arc of this six-film journey. Working with Jeff and the three of us and our dynamic, it all came back together, so much fun and bliss to do it."
Jurassic World: Dominion is released in cinemas on 10 June.
