Anton Du Beke reacts to becoming permanent Strictly judge

Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke was confirmed as the show's newest permanent judge last week, as Bruno Tonioli had committed to Dancing with the Stars as it moves to Disney+ live streaming.

Appearing on Morning Live following the announcement, the judges shared their excitement at having Anton become a personal judge, while Anton himself said he hoped the show makes a small change to let him get closer to his co-workers.

"What I hope we are able to do this year actually, talking about that, is I am hoping we can get rid of the screens," Anton said, referring to Covid-19 safety protocols.

"Because we have had the screens up over the last couple of the years between the judges, and the judges slightly separated. I am hoping we can get a bit closer so we can have a bit more chat amongst ourselves."

Craig Revel Horwood added that he was very excited for the upcoming run, stating: "Really looking forward to seeing who the Beeb get on there.

"It is great to have Anton with us again, darling. Love you. Love, love, love you."

When Bruno announced that he wasn't returning, he teased that UK viewers hadn't necessarily seen the last of him, and heaped praise on his fellow judges.

"Anton, you've done a fantastic job, you deserve it. It's a 10 from me. Carry on, do me proud – but you've already done that anyway," he said.

"Shirley my love, you'll be much safer with Anton next to you, no more bruising from me. Motsi, don't worry about Craig, he's only jealous because he cannot wear your clothes."

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to screens in September on BBC One.
