Coronation Street's Sam Aston and wife Briony welcome baby girl

Congratulations are in order for Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and his wife Briony on the birth of their second child.

Confirming the news with OK!, the couple shared their happiness over the new arrival, saying: "Our beautiful girl has arrived."

The pair also shared a photo of their bundle of joy. In the picture, the newborn's hand can be seen alongside a onesie reading "little sister", with embroidered flowers and bunny rabbit.

The couple have not yet publicly announced the name of their daughter, who is a little sister to their son Sonny.

Aston, who plays Chesney Brown on the soap, and yoga teacher Briony revealed the happy news last October, with an autumnal themed Instagram post showing Sonny holding a sign reading: "We're adding another pumpkin to our patch! Due Spring 2022."

Speaking to OK! last year, Briony revealed the news of their second child was a surprise to the couple, especially due to concerns after their son was born prematurely.

"We were actually trying not to get pregnant! Just because Sonny was so premature, my concern was having two too close together and having another premature baby. But it just happened!" she said.

Meanwhile, Aston discussed whether he'd considered leaving the soap and pursuing other roles. Speaking on Loose Women earlier this year, the actor, who's played Chesney since 2003, revealed he's perfectly content continuing his time on the cobbles.

"I've played him for so long, but I've been lucky because I've had so many storylines over the years that they always test you and it's a new thing to sink your teeth into," he said.

"So, I've not really entertained the idea right now. I'm very lucky, I thoroughly enjoy it at Corrie."
