Bridgerton fans may be looking to the show's future in a third season, but some of the stars of the Netflix series are looking back as they prepare for an upcoming spin-off.
Following the release of Bridgerton season two, a prequel was confirmed, with the as-yet-titled series set to tell the backstories of Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), Lady Agatha Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), and Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).
Sex Education's India Amarteifio will make her debut as a young Queen Charlotte in the prequel, with the episodes set to jump back and forth across time to explore both stages of the Queen's life.
Opening up about what viewers can expect from the series, Adjoa Andoh revealed how the backstory of her character will feature.
"You need to strategise," Andoh told TVLine. "These courts are not cuddly, friendly places. They're rabid, and you have to survive.
"Lady Danbury has gotten to a position of comfort and safety and status because she learned to play the game, and you will see how."
Meanwhile, Golda Rosheuvel advised fans to look out for the way the Queen's relationships with Agatha and Violet unfold – especially after we saw glimmers of her vulnerability in season two.
Recalling the poignant moment where Charithra Chandran's Edwina comforts a confused King and endears herself to the Queen in episode six, Rosheuvel offers some insight into how her character felt in that moment.
"I've got my two best friends in the room, Ladies Danbury and Violet. I've got these unknown entities in the Sharmas. And there's a wedding that's not happening for the Diamond that I chose. Then the husband comes in," she explained.
"How do all of these emotional stories collide when this thing happens? In the first take, I just focused on my best mates. The King comes in, and that emotion hits me.
"I know that they've seen him behave like this before, and I know that they know what's going on because I've told them. They're my mates. They are like family."
No doubt we can expect more on how that "family" came to be.
Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix.
