Netflix has released a new set of images for Dakota Johnson and Henry Golding's upcoming adaptation of Persuasion.
The latest take on Jane Austen's original novel was announced last summer and now, almost a year later, we've been given another sneak peek at the cast in action.
Confirmed for July 15 release on Netflix, Persuasion – directed by Carrie Cracknell – promises "a modern, witty approach" to the classic story that was first published in the 1800s.
Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson and Crazy Rich Asians' Henry Golding will play Anne Elliot and Mr Elliot, respectively.
Richard E Grant, Lady Macbeth's Cosmo Jarvis, Hard Sun's Nikki Amuka-Bird, and former EastEnders star Mia McKenna-Bruce round off the cast.
Persuasion's official synopsis reads: "Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities.
"When Frederick Wentworth – the dashing one she let get away – crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances."
Speaking of Netflix, the streaming giant recently hinted that it may be open to introducing advertisements to some of its users in the next two years.
Reed Hastings, the subscription service's co-CEO, floated the idea during a first-quarter earnings call yesterday (April 20).
"Those who have followed Netflix know that I've been against the complexity of advertising and a big fan of the simplicity of subscription. But as much as I'm a fan of that, I'm a bigger fan of consumer choice," he said.
"Allowing consumers who would like to have a lower price and are advertising-tolerant get what they want makes a lot of sense."
Persuasion will premiere on Friday, July 15 on Netflix.
