Killing Eve spin-off in the works with a surprising lead

A new Killing Eve spin-off focusing on the life of enigmatic MI6 spymaster Carolyn Martens is in the works.

According to Deadline, BBC America and AMC Networks are in the early stages of work on the show which is yet to be given the green light.

Since the first season of Killing Eve, Carolyn has played a crucial part in the drama's storyline.

First appearing as head of the MI6 Russia desk, viewers have seen the shady past of Shaw's character explored, leaving fans questioning who's side she's on.

A recent episode of the show delved even further into her past, revealing Carolyn, then using the alias of Janice, to be involved in the creation of The Twelve – the group of shadowy assassins which Jodie Comer's Villanelle is a part of and which Sandra Oh's Eve is obsessed with taking down.

The flashback scenes provide more intrigue for a dedicated show exploring Carolyn's murky past.

Meanwhile, Fiona Shaw recently opened up about an injury she sustained while filming season four.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Shaw said: "If only I could say I was in the air doing a double switchback! But, no, I was carrying logs down to the kitchen, slipped and landed five stairs down and crushed the top of my knee."

Season four showrunner Laura Neal has also teased a bloody series finale.
