Derry Girls series 3 has been teased by Channel 4 and Clare actress/Bridgerton star Nicola Coughland a fair bit lately, with the tease that it was coming to our screens soon.

Now we know exactly how soon that is, as the broadcaster has announced series 3 will premiere on Tuesday, April 12 at 9.15pm.

Not only that, we've also got a first-look at the series with a scene from (we assume) the first episode. In the clip, which you can see above, we see the girls and James go to the VHS store and discuss whether Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart was a drag queen or not – while Dennis is as unhelpful as ever.

Sister Michael also pops in at the end of the clip. She doesn't explain why she's in crutches, but she says that the other guy had it worse...

Unfortunately, it looks like we won't get to see as much of Clare as we'd like this series, as Coughlan recently explained.

"We were meant to film Derry Girls in January 2021. And I was totally free and they decided to push it again," she told media outlet Digital Spy and other press earlier this month. "And that caused me insane stress because I was on [what] in the industry is called first call. So it means you have to go and do the show that you're on first call to, which was Bridgerton.

"And I was like 'Guys, can we just film it?' And they were like, 'No, we're gonna wait.' And I was like, 'oh', so [we had to make] compromises happen in the script of Derry Girls. It was devastating to me because I wanted to be in all of this. But compromises had to be made."

Derry Girls series 3 begins on April 12 at 9.15pm on Channel 4 and All4. Series 1 and 2 are available to stream now on the service.
