Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno share sweet red carpet moment at the Oscars

Ariana DeBose paid a sweet tribute to Hollywood legend Rita Moreno at the 2022 Oscars Ceremony.

Ariana won the highly-coveted Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the ceremony for her role as Anita in Stephen Spielberg's revival adaptation of West Side Story. When accepting her award, Ariana honoured Rita Moreno, who played Anita in the original West Side Story film in 1961.

In 1961, Rita won Best Supporting Actress at the 34th Academy Awards for playing Anita - so it was incredible to see history repeat itself with Ariana's victory in 2022. In a sweet and graceful style, Ariana used her acceptance speech to praise Rita Moreno's win 60 years previously. What made the moment even more special was the fact that Rita watched on from this year's audience as Ariana accepted her award. Taking to the stage, Ariana said: "I'm so grateful your Anita paved the way for tons of Anitas like me, and I love you so much."

Rita Moreno was seen looking emotional in the Oscars audience as Ariana accepted her accolade. The pair later posed for a photo together, making for a truly historic and lovely snap.
