While we're still reeling from the sad news that Neighbours is ending this summer, many are still holding out hope that it will go out with a bang and some big reunions.

Among the biggest would undoubtedly be Scott and Charlene Robinson (aka the iconic Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue) – and excitingly, the former has teased discussions about the prospect.

Speaking on 98FM's Big Breakfast before the definitive cancellation news was confirmed yesterday morning (March 3), Jason spoke out about the possibility of a reunion.

"Well look I'm not going to say there hasn't been a discussion about it because you know there is a possibility," he revealed. "But I can't say it's gonna happen because that wouldn't be the truth you know, so I don't know is the answer to that."

He continued: "But I think this might be a little bit different so look let's see you know but if it doesn't happen, that doesn't make me sad either. It's a celebration of a great Australian television series and I'm… well it's kept my family in business for the past three decades."

Speaking of the show coming to an end, Jason admitted it was "sad" news, saying he was "very grateful" for the soap.

"You know, this is 36 years of great television and 36 years, I think it's 36, of putting Australia firmly on the map," he added.

"I mean look at the careers that it's launched. So I'm thinking of the positives and I'm thinking of the happiness and the affection and the love that the show has generated for the years it's been on TV."

Reacting herself to the show ending, Kylie tweeted today: "I'll be forever grateful for the experience & the friends I made on @neighbours.

"We had no idea how big the show would become and how passionately viewers would take it to heart. Pure love! I can still hear Madge calling … CHARLENE!!!!"

Production company Fremantle confirmed the cancellation news following Channel 5's revelation last month that it would no longer be airing Neighbours, with the soap unable to find alternative funding.

However, while it sounds like things are still a bit up in the air for Jason and Kylie right now, we do know that some past faces will be coming back to say goodbye to Ramsay Street, including Harold Bishop (Ian Smith).

Here's hoping we get to see Charlene and Scott again too!

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
