Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight has teased a chaotic character's return in the new season.

After being shot in the face by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) was unexpectedly brought back in the finale of season five.

In the upcoming chapter, premiering this weekend, the Jewish gangster is back, although he finds himself in a very different position compared to the previous seasons.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, Knight said viewers should expect "chaos" from Alfie's return.

"I think it's difficult to explain without giving stuff away, but we might find Alfie in a position not quite as strong as he normally is. And the question is, can he build himself back up?" he continued.

Knight also admitted on having brought back the character as Hardy loves playing him.

"It seemed ripe for Alfie not to be around but Tom loves the character. A lot. And so basically, we can't kill him," he revealed.

As for Tommy's very own cliffhanger – which saw him pointing a gun to his head at the end of season five – Murphy said that the opening of the new season will provide fans with most of the answers they need.

"An awful lot will be revealed in the very first 10 minutes of episode one of series six," he told the BBC.

"A lot of what happens in that first 10 minutes becomes the engine for the rest of the story and for the rest of the series.

"I think it'll be a very, very satisfying opening ten minutes for audience members."

Peaky Blinders series 6 will premiere on February 27 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
