Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams has announced she is having a baby with her partner, Ella Baig.
The Olympic athlete, also known for being part of Strictly's first same-sex pairing in 2020, and Baig shared the happy news with their followers on Instagram, with Baig publishing a picture of her and Adams together and an ultrasound scan of the baby.
"We're so excited to announce that our family is expanding," Baig shared. "After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we're going to be parents! We're so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between."
Adams' Strictly professional dance partner Katya Jones was among those to congratulate the couple, writing: "I am beyond excited and happy for you!!!!!!! What beautiful news!!!!!!!!! You're gonna be such amazing parents!!!"
The former boxing champion has opened up on her and Baig's fertility journey with Vogue UK, discussing the challenges they faced as a same-sex couple.
"We both knew we wanted kids from the beginning, but it wasn't until about a year into our relationship that we started to have more serious conversations about it. For us, it was more complicated than it would be for a straight couple and there were a lot of different factors to consider. Who was going to carry the baby? Whose egg were we going to use? And what about the sperm?"
They decided Baig would carry the baby and went through several rounds of IVF, using Adams' frozen eggs and sperm from a donor resembling Baig.
After two failed attempts, the pair are now expecting a little one, and Baig is in the second trimester.
"I'm so happy, but it's also been emotional," Adams shared. "We were worried about getting too excited because we'd miscarried before, but I think it's really important that we try to enjoy it rather than dwelling on what could go wrong."
