It feels like the wait has taken forever, but we have an answer, finally – Peaky Blinders series 6 has a confirmed premiere date and time from the BBC.
It was reported earlier this month that the series would arrive before February finishes, and now, we have a date for your calendar – Sunday, February 27 at 9pm on BBC One.
The news was formally announced via a dramatic, 12.71m-tall mural featuring Cillian Murphy's character Tommy Shelby, located in the Digbeth area of Birmingham.
The artwork was created over a week by Akse, whose previous work includes a mural of Marcus Rashford in Withington, South Manchester, painted in honour of the footballer's campaigning to tackle child food poverty.
Paul Anderson, who plays Arthur Shelby, had previously hinted at a February release date for Peaky Blinders series 6.
The BBC also recently released some new first-look photos of Murphy as Tommy.
As well as the arrival of Stephen Graham's mysterious new character, the latest season of Peaky Blinders will mark the first since the sad death of Helen McCrory, who played the beloved gang matriarch Polly Gray.
Opening up about creator Steven Knight's approach to Helen's absence, Murphy recently reassured fans that her character is "still present".
"What I always feel sad about is that we were about to shoot and then the pandemic happened and we had to stop," he said, reflecting on the series' loss. "If we had shot then, Helen would've been in the show, and that makes me feel sad.
"It's a huge loss; it's hard to comprehend it. Because she was the matriarch of the whole thing. As the character, but just also as her personality."
Hinting at a "brilliant tribute" to Helen in the upcoming episodes, Murphy continued: "But she's still present in series six.
"Steve has managed to keep her very, very present, which I think is a brilliant tribute to Steve and also to Helen. But we couldn't quite fathom it all as we were making it, you know?"
