Strictly Come Dancing sensation AJ Odudu has announced a new TV project.

A month on from a serious ankle injury that forced her out of the ballroom competition's grand final and its arena tour, AJ confirmed that she's flying to Vietnam to work on a new show.

Uploading an airport photo for her Instagram followers to enjoy this week, AJ captioned it: "When one door closes, an aeroplane door opens! I'm off to Vietnam to film a show coming soon to @channel4 & @hbomax.... (& I'm traveling light)."

We count three suitcases piled on top of each other – something tells us her wardrobes might now be empty at home.

Over in the comment section, AJ's professional Strictly partner Kai Widdrington wished the TV presenter all the best, writing: "Enjoy partner!!! Have an amazing time".

BBC's Angela Scanlon and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner Giovanna Fletcher both added: "Yes woman!!! This is fantastic news xx" and "can we start talking about how much these blooming boots stink??! Xxxx".

Giovanna was talking about AJ's support boot, which she's still wearing to protect her ankle. The author and presenter had to pull out of play 2:22 - A Ghost Story recently after hurting her ankle, and has been wearing a similar support boot.

Meanwhile, for the Strictly tour commencing next Thursday (January 20) at Birmingham's Utilita Arena – spanning 33 dates – Kai will instead be partnered alongside Maisie Smith of EastEnders fame.

"I'm devastated not to be able to take part in the Strictly tour due to injury," AJ said recently. "I had hoped for one last dance with Kai, but I must obviously follow the medical advice.

"I wish my Strictly family the very best of luck on the road and I'll definitely be there to cheer them on."

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this year.
