Death in Paradise season 11 unveils first-look photos

Death in Paradise series 11 has unveiled its first look at upcoming episodes – and, as ever, murder and mystery is the theme of the day.

Saint Marie may be paradise, but it sure is a dangerous place to live.

Ahead of Death in Paradise's Christmas special, the sun-soaked crime series has released the first images for its latest season, teasing new challenges for Tahj Miles' Marlon Pryce and a glimpse of DI Neville Parker and DS Florence Cassell working together.

Of course, following the cliffhanger in the series 10 finale – in which Ralf Little's Neville confessed his love to Joséphine Jobert's Florence – fans will be hoping to spot any clues that point to a blossoming romance.

Promising viewers that Death in Paradise will address DI Parker's love for DS Cassell in the new season, executive producer Tim Key told Metro.co.uk that the arc is "really cool".

"All I can tell you is when the show comes back viewers will absolutely find out what happens next," Key teased. "When it's back, we will let everybody know."

He added: "With situations like Neville and Florence's, it's very hard. If you get people together it can be the end of a partnership in dramatic terms, but at the same time you can't stretch things out for too long because the audience get frustrated.

"We've got a really cool plan, we know where it's going and the audience will be very satisfied with it. There's a story to tell and I think we needed the time to tell it."

Hinting that the romantic series 11 sub-plot won't be as cut and dry as the crimes the team solves, Key conceded that they will hook viewers in in a "devilish" way.

"It's not because we don't know where the story is going," he argued. "We know exactly where it's going and it's really cool."

As well as its usual roster of impressive guest stars, Death in Paradise series 11 will also see the arrival of Honoré Police Station's newest recruit, Sergeant Naomi Thomas.

Death in Paradise airs on BBC One and will return for a Christmas special on Boxing Day.
