The Great British Bake Off spoilers follow.

The Great British Bake Off lost contestant Maggie yesterday (October 12) after four weeks of tent action.

On reflection, it was probably the right time for Maggie to exit the competition, having notably forgotten to put flour in her sticky toffee sponges during the Dessert Week technical challenge – leaving the puddings in a collapsed state before they had even reached the judges.

Her show-stopping joconde also fell short, as she took her cake out of the oven too soon, meaning she had to bin all of her work and start from scratch.

The delay meant her dessert hadn't fully set by the end of the time limit, and her filling all came spilling out on the judges' table.

In the aftermath of Maggie's departure, the retired midwife paid tribute to her supporters on Twitter with a sweet letter.

"Hello everyone," she wrote. "Who would have thought that at my time of life I would have been picked to have the time of my life! After almost a year of ups + downs, successes and failures, I will miss being part of the GBBO team so much.

"I want to thank so many of you who were so kind and supportive via all your messages. I entered the tent as a 'traditional' baker (you heard that many times!) but have come out inspired to try things that I would never have dreamed of.

"Try it – after all it's only cake! Best wishes, Maggie x."

After reading this, a number of the Bake Off Twitter account's followers reiterated their love for Maggie.

"Maggie, you're a truly beautiful person inside and out. I hope many more wonderful opportunities and adventures come your way. You truly deserve it," one viewer commented.

"Magnificent effort, you did make us laugh, and took that technical in such good spirits. Nice one!" read a second response.

Tuesday night's (October 13) episode saw Chigs take the Star Baker accolade for the first time in Bake Off's 2021 run, also earning his first handshake from Paul Hollywood on impressing with his meringue signature bake.

"Getting a handshake and Star Baker in the same week… I can't believe it. It never happens, but I'm lost for words," he said.

The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
