Sister Act 3 starring Whoopi Goldberg gets big update

Sister Act's first sequel, Back in the Habit, came out a year after the original. Almost twenty years on, fans are still waiting for a third outing.

However, things are finally moving forward with Sister Act 3, which is set to be yet another retro revival at Disney+, which is fast becoming the home of nostalgic comebacks.

As reported by Deadline, the House of Mouse has brought on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' creator and executive producer Tim Federle to direct. The publication states that Disney execs were very pleased with his work on the upcoming Lisa Kudrow-starring Better Nate Than Ever, and feel he can translate that into Sister Act 3.

Evil Eye and A Nice Indian Boy scriptwriter Madhuri Shekar will be penning this one, while Tyler Perry will be producing.

Of course, Whoopi Goldberg will be reprising her role as nightclub singer turned protected witness turned fake nun/choir instructor (turned Vegas singer in the second one) Deloris Van Cartier. She'll also be serving as a producer alongside Perry and Tom Leonardis.

As well as the third Sister Act, which she has been in the planning for a few years now, Whoopi recently signed a new deal to continue appearing on the panel of American talk show The View for at least the next three seasons.

She's also been hankering to play the leading role in Doctor Who, and has even asked the producers if she can be the first Black and American actor to do so. Maybe with Russell T Davies returning as the showrunner, he'll be the one to do it?
