Bridgerton spoilers follow.
Netflix has released a first look at the eagerly-awaited second season of the hit period drama during today's (September 25) virtual fan event TUDUM.
Following the conclusion of the romantic arc between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, (Regé-Jean Page) at the end of season one, the next chapter will focus on Daphne's brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) as he navigates becoming a Viscount, alongside his romantic exploits.
The new clip not only teases the return of Bridgerton next year, but that a feisty new romance is on the horizon with the introduction of the new lead – Sex Education star Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma.
An unimpressed Kate makes her dislike of Anthony abundantly clear having overheard him listing the qualities he desires in a potential wife.
"You take issue with my requirements?" Anthony queries
"I take issue with any man who views women merely as chattels and breeding stock," Kate fires back. "When you manage to find this paragon of virtue, what makes you think that she will accept your suit? Are the young ladies of London truly so easily won by a pleasing smile and absolutely nothing more?"
Anthony picks up on her saying his smile is "pleasing", to which she shoots him down saying "your character is as deficient as your horsemanship" before walking off.
As she bids him goodnight, Anthony is left with a confused look on his face, but it seems there's a hint of a smile appearing as he ponders the challenge of winning the heart of someone who seems so opposed to him.
We'll have to wait and see whether he succeeds, but we certainly welcome the addition of a feisty new character to shake up the Bridgerton family.
