Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar, who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings on the hit crime drama, has spoken about his hopes that series seven will come to fruition, and hinted that there are story ideas in the works already.

"I'm sure the BBC want to do another series. We do, because we want to get together again," Dunbar told GQ Magazine.

"I have a couple of ideas – we all have ideas that we share – but I'd rather not say what they are. There are things embedded in the storyline that could come together to make up a very interesting series seven."

Following the (some critics would say, anticlimactic) reveal of H as the hapless Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells in the series six finale – and this being framed as the concluding arc of the show – it's unsurprising that fans want another series to explore if this was indeed the true identity of the bent copper they'd been searching so long for.

Earlier this year, series creator Jed Mercurio gave a somewhat vague response as to whether the show has truly ended or if it was a way to reset the characters for a whole new mystery.

"I'd say it's too soon. It's too soon to draw that conclusion. It could be either of those, or it could be something different," he teased.

The BBC itself though does seem keen to continue the success of the show, as Dunbar alluded to, with Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore stating: "I'm looking forward to having a conversation with the team about where we go next and what the future of the series might be."

Line of Duty series 1-6 are available on BBC iPlayer, and DVD and Blu-ray boxsets are also available to buy now.
