Strictly's Kevin Clifton would return to the show as a judge

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton has admitted that he'd be keen to make a comeback on the show at some point in the future – just not as a competing professional.

While promoting his new production of Singin' in the Rain on Monday's Loose Women (August 16), the performer was asked whether he'd consider returning to the hit BBC series, after he confirmed in March 2020 that he was quitting the show.

"I love the show, I love Strictly Come Dancing and it's been a massive part of my life," he told presenters Kaye Adams, Gloria Hunniford, Judi Love and Brenda Edwards.

"I did it for seven years. There's still a part of me that says 'never say never' about going back to it, maybe in a different role, who knows? But for now, everything is theatre for me."

But the presenters were quick to pick up on the idea of Clifton returning in "another role", especially after his fellow Strictly professional Anton Du Beke has been confirmed as a judge for the new series.

"Anton's got that judging seat for a wee while, but he might just be keeping it warm for you Kevin?" Adams teased, before Clifton quipped back: "Hey, if he wants to move aside, or any of the others want to move aside, I'd happily be a judge on Strictly Come Dancing!"

Showing at the Sadler's Wells theatre in London from July 30 to September 5, Singin' in the Rain sees Clifton play Cosmo Brown opposite Charlotte Gooch, Cavin Cornwall, Adam Cooper and Steps star Faye Tozer.

Back in April, Clifton also announced that he'll be taking to the stage once again in Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation of HG Wells' sci-fi classic The War of the Worlds, which returns to select venues throughout the UK in 2022.

Clifton will play The Artilleryman, while Steps singer Claire Richards will adopt the role of Beth, the Parson's Wife. Liam Neeson will be back as The Journalist in 3D holography, too.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One. It's due to return later in 2021.
