Catherine Zeta-Jones has channelled her inner Morticia Addams to celebrate landing the role of the iconic Addams Family matriarch in Tim Burton's Netflix live action series.

The Oscar winner will star in eight-part series Wednesday, based on Addams Family daughter Wednesday Addams. Wednesday will be played by Yes Day's Jenna Ortega.

Taking to Instagram, Catherine posted a photo of herself looking ridiculously glamorous in a black one-shoulder gown with a dramatic satin black bow across the neckline.

Catherine will star opposite Luis Guzmán, who will play her on-screen husband Gomez. The drama will centre on Wednesday as deals with supernatural abilities, school and looming young adulthood.

Describing the new series, Netflix's head of YA/family series Teddy Biaselli said: "The upcoming eight-episode series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday's years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy.

"Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body."

The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

Wednesday will launch on Netflix.
