Corrie's Katie McGlynn has been confirmed as the eighth celebrity to be joining Strictly Come Dancing.

The 28-year-old Hollyoaks actress was announced on BBC Breakfast by broadcaster Louise Minchin shortly after TV presenter Dan Walker was also unveiled.

"I've been so nervous, but I'm really excited for today because I've had to keep it a secret for so long - I'm just relieved everyone knows now," Katie told viewers.

"I'm like Bambi on ice, I'm not a dancer, by the way!" she added.

Katie previously starred on Waterloo Road before joining Coronation Street as Sinead Tinker, who was tragically killed off in 2019. She recently joined the cast of Hollyoaks.

The Strictly 2021 line-up already includes McFly's Tom Fletcher, actor Robert Webbe, TV presenter AJ Odudu, CBBC's Rhys Stephenson, Bake Off's John Whaite, Dragons' Den's Sara Davies, and Dan Walker.

John will have the show's first all-male partnership, which he described as "a great step forward in representation and inclusion".

"Whoever it is I'm paired with, I hope they are up for a challenge as I want our routines to include lots of spectacular lifts!" he said in a statement to the BBC.

This year's competition will be back for a full-length series, with 15 celebrity contestants battling it out for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

Fans will be thrilled to hear that the much-loved themed weeks will also return, although Blackpool week, where the semi-finalists perform at the iconic Blackpool Tower, will be cancelled for a second consecutive year due to the pandemic.

Anton Du Beke is hanging up his dancing shoes after 17 years to join the panel of judges - Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood.

Janette Manrara will also be leaving the dancing line-up to co-host Strictly's BBC Two sister show It Takes Two with Rylan Clark. Poland's Jowita Przystal, Ukraine's Nikita Kuzmin, South Africa's Cameron Lombard and the UK's Kai Widdrington will be joining the pro-dancers.
