Doctor Who's Freema Agyeman to return as Martha Jones in new audio adventure

Martha Jones is set to return to the Doctor Who universe for a new series of audio adventures from Big Finish.

Freema Agyeman, who played the Doctor's companion between 2007 and 2008, will reprise the role for The Year of Martha Jones, with the three episodes comprising of 'The Last Diner', 'Silver Medal' and 'Deceived'.

In them, we will learn what Martha was up to travelling the Earth and warning people about The Master between TV episodes 'The Sound of Drums' and 'The Last of the Time Lords'.

Adjoa Andoh (who recently appeared in Bridgerton) will also return as Martha's mum Francine from the TV show for the audio series.

"We really didn't know what Martha was going through during that year on Earth – we see her embark on it, and we see the conclusion of it, but it's so interesting to really see her as an ordinary person, trying to do extraordinary things," Freema said.

"She has incredible independence and strength so I think she can rely on that, but it's been great to see how she does ebb and flow throughout that journey."

Ahead of its December release, The Year of Martha Jones is available now to pre-order as a collector's edition CD for £19.99, or digital download for £16.99, exclusively from the Big Finish website.

Freema previously returned to the role last year for a Big Finish Torchwood story, which explored what Martha got up to after she left the Doctor.
