Princess Anne visited a new system of tunnels yesterday (7 July) which have been built beneath the city of London.
In a protective hard hat and high-vis clothing, the Princess explored the newly built tunnels before fixing in the final bolt at Chelsea Embankment.
A post to the official Royal Family Instagram account explained that Princess Anne, “travelled deep below London to see the Thames Tideway Tunnel - the city’s new sewer system.”
The tunnels have been built to help prevent pollution to the Thames as it will “prevent millions of tonnes of waste” from reaching the river.
Photographs shared on social media by the Royal Family show the Princess Royal laughing as she chats to workers and her deep inside the huge underground system of tunnels as she is given a tour.
Members of the public praised the hard-working royal saying, “I appreciate HRH’s work ethic and sense of responsibility she models for all of us.”
Another message read, “Well done. I love how she focuses on the work and gives attention to projects that others would overlook.”
While Princess Anne was learning more about the tunnel system yesterday (6 July), the Countess of Wessex was also out supporting a new project.
Sophie Wessex took part in a tandem bike ride with visually impaired cyclists as part of her patronage with Vision Foundation.
The cycle was part of an effort to launch a new initiative to prevent unemployment among blind and visually impaired individuals.
