Prue Leith's reaction to being awarded a damehood is extremely sweet - and one of her co-stars was as excited as she was.

The presenter, writer, chef and judge on the Great British Bake Off was announced as one of the recipients of the Queen's Birthday Honours on Saturday (12 June) alongside stars like Ruth Wilson, Lulu and footballer Raheem Sterling.

She jokingly referred to herself as 'Dame Prue' in a tweet announcing the news - which definitely does have a nice ring to it, right?

"I am thrilled, delighted and very grateful," she explained on Twitter. "I’m not sure I deserve such a pat on the back for doing things that I’ve loved all my long life - in business or cooking or campaigning.

"But I can’t pretend it’s not a huge honour and source of pride. Dame Prue! It will take some getting used to. #QueensBirthdayHonours #DamePruex"

GBBO presenter Matt Lucas congratulated her with eight exclamation marks.

Fans also celebrated the award, with one telling Prue, "I think a new cake should be invented The Dame Prue!!! Something rich and vibrant. Many congratulations !"

We'd agree. A Dame Prue Leith-themed challenge when Bake Off returns later this year? Fingers crossed.
