The Duchess of Cambridge has joked about buying Prince William a Spider-Man outfit while chatting to a martial arts teacher who dressed up as the superhero to entertain his local community during the pandemic.
Kate had chosen a photo of Jason Baird dressed up as Spider-Man for her Hold Still photography exhibition, which encouraged members of the public to send in photos chronicling their daily life during Covid-19.
Jason, who runs Jason Baird's Black Belt Academy, and his friend Andrew Baldock, became known as the "Stockport Spider-Men", using their daily walks to dress up in character and cheer up the children in their area.
Speaking to Jason on the phone, the duchess said: "Thank you for sending in your photograph because there are some really emotive and really sad images and stories that we had. But this brought, you know, particularly to the judging panel, it was such a wonderful positive image of community spirit. It was amazingly captured.
"And I hadn't appreciated at the time that you are a martial arts teacher so that gives it a lot of context as well."
She then laughed: "I'll see if it takes on the trend here at Kensington Palace. Might have to buy William a suit. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure he's going to get the air clearance that you've got."
The duchess added: "Really well done and thank you so much for sharing your photograph. Thank you for your time. It's been great to chat today."
The images went on display at the National Portrait Gallery, and feature in Kate's photography book Hold Still. The proceeds from the book are being split between Mind Charity and the National Portrait Gallery, helping to support arts and mental health projects across the UK.
The Hold Still book can be pre-ordered now for £24.95, and will be available on 7 May.
