Hocus Pocus 2 have made some exciting new announcements, including a key plot reveal, a change in director and a release date.
It has been confirmed that Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker, singer and actress Bette Midler and Sister Act's Kathy Naji will return as the witchy Sanderson sisters, and the movie will follow what happens when they are brought back to modern day Salem by three young women.
The iconic trio must figure out how to stop child-hungry witches from executing an evil plan on the modern world.
Sarah Jessica Parker herself confirmed that the sequel will arrive on Disney streaming service for the "fall" of this year – do we predict a Halloween release date?
She posted on Instagram: "Yep. I'm ready. To run. Amok, amok, amok, amok. #HocusPocus2 arrives Fall 2022 on @disneyplus. Sisters???"
Anne Fletcher, the director of 27 Dresses – will be taking over directing duties from Hairspray's Adam Shankman due to scheduling conflicts. Adam will, however, stay on as executive producer.
Adam has confirmed that "he couldn't be more pleased" to hand over the reins to Anne – their relationship goes way back to the days where she got him a job choreographing Boogie Nights.
"Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” Anne has said in a statement.
"I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special," she added. "This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can't wait to get started."
Hocus Pocus is currently available to watch on Disney+. Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in autumn 2022.
