Sue Perkins has revealed that she'd consider getting marriage dressed as a dragon - after being unmasked as the singer inside The Masked Singer's resident reptile.
The comedian, presenter and writer became the latest celebrity to leave the show on Saturday (6 February) and has admitted that the one occasion she'd revisit the outfit would be her wedding day. No word on what her girlfriend, presenter Anna Richardson, thinks of her plan.
Speaking after her unmasking, Sue revealed what it was like keeping the secret, surprising the public and transforming into the dragon.
What did you think of your mask, your overall look and the character you got to play? I was so chuffed with Dragon. The suit was a little uncomfortable at first, but the incredible team of costume designers worked on it so that it ended up fitting like a big, scaly glove.
Were there any nerves when you first performed as your character or did being hidden inside the costume make you feel more confident? I was strangely calm. I’ve always had a problem singing as myself – but everything felt better once I had a big mask on my head. I might try it in other stressful situations to be honest - like talking to traffic wardens or going to the dentist.
If you could wear your mask and costume just one more time, what occasion would you choose to wear it to? My wedding.
What made you decide to take on this challenge? It just felt so utterly counter-intuitive that I had to do it. I’m usually up a mountain or down a river these days – so I’m probably the last person that anyone would think of in a musical entertainment context. I got an awful lot of joy out of hoodwinking the panel.
How hard is it to keep the secret? Actually, I found it pretty easy. I suppose that’s a hangover from Bake Off. I’d know the winner months before the show hit the screen, and became very practised at never letting on – even when cornered in petrol stations and supermarkets by eager viewers…
How was the secrecy at filming? The team are such a well-oiled machine. You’re only ever referred to by your character name and you spend the entire time on set in a black hoody, balaclava and visor - like a light entertainment ninja.
How did it feel to leave at the point you left in the show? It felt like I’d been very lucky to stay in so long – after all, a long tail and cute eyes can only get you so far when you can barely hold a tune
