Ryan Murphy is no stranger to creating a hit musical series, and now he's bringing a starry musical movie to our screens - with an impressive cast.
Murphy is producing The Prom, a story about four Broadway stars who try to boost their careers with a PR stunt. They arrive, uninvited, in a small town to support a teenage girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.
Murphy took to Instagram to share a behind the scenes shot from filming, featuring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Kerry Washington.
"Meet the incredible icon-packed cast of Netflix's THE PROM. A group of true troopers who buckled up and finished shooting during COVID so we could give everybody an inspirational aspirational story that we all need right now. Christmas is right around the corner..." he wrote.

The Prom: What's it about?
The new Netflix production is an adaptation of the 2018 Broadway production of the same name. It tells the story of four Broadway stars who fear their careers are on the way out and set to give themselves a boost with a PR stunt. They arrive, uninvited, in a small town to support a teenage girl who wants to take her girlfriend to prom.
“The Prom is one of the most uplifting, heartfelt and special musicals I have ever seen on Broadway," Murphy said of the show.
“It’s truly an original that celebrates the underdog and says in a loving spectacular way that LGBTQ rights are human rights. I feel a special connection to it because it’s set in Indiana, and that’s where I grew up, too."
The Prom: Who's in it?
Meryl Streep plays Broadway diva Dee Dee Allen while Kidman plays chorus girl Angie Dickinson. James Corden is Dee Dee’s leading man Barry Glickman, Andrew Rannells is performer Trent Oliver and Kerry Washington is PTA group member Mrs. Greene. Newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman is Emma Nolan, the high school girl the story is centred on.
The Prom: When's it on Netflix?
Netflix hasn't confirmed but Murphy's Instagram post suggests it'll hit screens this Christmas.
