Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar is "really" trying to bring back one of the classic members of the squad.

D.C. Nigel Morton was a key figure in AC-12's investigations into The Caddy in early series, prior to the emergence of H as the primary antagonist from the Organised Crime Group.

While cast member Neil Morrissey exited as a regular after the third season, Dunbar has told the Radio Times that he's been begging Jed Mercurio to bring back Morton.

"I really think that Nigel, Neil's character, should come back – I've been advocating for that to see if we can get Nigel back," he teased.

If he were to return, it would be interesting to see which side of the AC-12 vs OCG war Morton would be on, since he was last seen being blackmailed by the infamous Caddy.

Whether or not Line of Duty viewers can expect to see old faces resurfacing, Martin Compston has promised a shocker early in the sixth season.

"For this year, I think we've filmed [episodes] one and two, and as a cast, we've got [the scripts for] three and four, and Jed [Mercurio] is writing five and six and we haven't seen them, and there's a bombshell at the end of four and I'm desperate to find out what happens," he told RT.

"We're just the same as everybody else and as far as H goes, as soon as we find him we're out a job."

Line of Duty airs on BBC One. Series 1-5 are available on boxset now.
