On Monday (18 May), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge helped kickstart Mental Health Awareness Week by both appearing in a new video about mental health for their Heads Together charity, which works to help eliminate stigma around mental health.
The #MentalHealthMinute clip was broadcast across almost all UK radio stations and was also widely shared online.
The royal couple were joined in the video by a whole host of celebrities, including Anthony Joshua, Harry Kane, Dua Lipa and David Tenant. All shared a message about supporting each other and speaking out about mental health.
Joshua opened the video for the Cambridges, telling listeners: "This is a significant moment, almost every station in the country is broadcasting this message. You are connected to 20 million people by the power of radio for this year's mental health minute."
Each celebrity then took their moment to impart a message of support on behalf of the campaign.
When it came to Prince William's turn to speak, he told listeners: "We're all connected. And sometimes just talking about how you're feeling can make a big difference. So right now, let's join together across the UK and reach out to someone."
The Duchess of Cambridge closely followed, telling everyone: "If you're struggling, it's important to talk about it. Or, if you know someone who is acting differently, it's OK to ask how they are. Use this moment to send a message."
Each year, the UK comes together for Mental Health Awareness Week to encourage society to help people live mentally healthy lives. This year's theme is kindness and is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation.
If you or someone you know is struggling and in need of support, the following organisations can help: Mind, Samaritans or the Mental Health Foundation.
