In celebration of International Dance Day, the Duchess of Cornwall joined Angela Rippon and Dame Darcey Bussell for a virtual chat about dance this week.

In a video posted to the Clarence House Twitter page, Camilla discussed her new role as vice patron of the Royal Academy of Dance and revealed how she's keeping active during lockdown.

Speaking about her new role, Camilla said: "It’s no hardship for me because I love dance, I love dance in any form, so it’s a real honour for me to be asked."

The Duchess then went on to reveal she's taken up the academy's Silver Swans dance classes, an initiative developed for senior leaners who want to take part in ballet classes, and has been practicing ballet during lockdown.

"I think we’ve all got to keep active, if we don’t we’ll just seize up and we won’t be able to get out of bed in the morning. Doesn’t matter if it’s 10 minutes of 20 minutes. It just starts off the day," Camilla said.

She added: "I do a bit of the Swans and a bit of pilates and a lot of walking which I love."

Camilla went on to discuss her experience with the academy's Silver Swans classes and how much she has enjoyed learning ballet.

"I have never done any ballet before and it doesn’t matter whether you have done ballet or not, it is something that will make you feel better, it gives you a certain amount of confidence in yourself. It’s a bit of discipline and it’s something we all need in our lives," Camilla said.

She added: "You might groan a bit afterwards and puff, grunt and everything else but you do feel so much better."

The Duchess told Angela and Darcey she has found ballet really fun and enjoys dancing.

"I am very much a beginner and probably will always remain a beginner but I do feel after a year or 18 months of doing it that maybe I’ve improved a tiny bit. But I am certainly not going to be taking to the stage… I shall keep it in my own home."

The Royal Academy of Dance has launched free online Silver Swan classes to help keep the country active during lockdown. The classes are said to be suitable for all ages and abilities.
