Strictly's Giovanni admits thing that "didn't work" last series

Strictly Come Dancing's Giovanni Pernice has opened up about his sudden elimination from the last series.

The professional dancer was partnered with Michelle Visage, who was seen as a favourite to win earlier in the series.

However, the pair were booted off in Blackpool Week after their Street/Commercial routine to Madonna's 'Vogue' landed them in the bottom two, the judges choosing to save Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard instead.

Opening up about the exit on yesterday's (January 15) This Morning, Giovanni admitted that the dance "didn't work" – at least in terms of votes.

"Something happened with 'Vogue'," he explained. "We tried to put something different in the show, something that we haven't seen before.

"It didn't work, in the sense of votes. It definitely worked for other reasons. We loved it. Something different, you want to challenge yourself.

"You don't want to keep doing all the same moves. Yes, this is what the show is about. But sometimes you want to try new things. The people didn't vote."

Fans are currently getting their Strictly fix with the annual tour, though Michelle is among those not taking part in proceedings.

Recently explaining why she isn't part of the line-up, she revealed: "I'll tell you what happened, it's not risky or scandalous. I said, 'Yes [to the tour] but I have RuPaul's Drag Con, is there any way I could miss the matinees?'

"They were like you have to do all of them and I was like, 'Okay do you want me to see if I can move it?' They said yes, so I moved it."

She added: "I got out of it because at one point, I was going to do the tour and not Drag Con, and at that point, they were like, 'Oh I'm sorry, we're going to pass'. So I cleared my schedule and they passed on me.

"I cleared my schedule and they passed on me so that's what happened."
