Those who questioned the need for another Dracula adaptation were quickly silenced last night (January 1) as BBC One aired the first part of its new bloodsucker miniseries.
Not only that, but the series also provided fans with a juicy little treat by revealing a major connection to the Doctor Who universe.
Created by Doctor Who's Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, the series follows English lawyer Jonathan Harker (John Heffernan) as he travels to Transylvania to meet a new client, Count Dracula (Claes Bang).
Harker finds himself trapped in an ancient, terrifying castle, and it soon becomes clear that the Count himself is not living at all.
Early on in the first episode, however, Harker receives a letter from his fiancée Mina (Morfydd Clark), who jokingly mentions the "adorable barmaid" at The Rose and Crown.
Jenna Louise Coleman's Doctor Who character Clara Oswald worked as a barmaid at the very same pub in the episode 'The Snowmen' and, given this new Dracula series is from the same creators, this is almost certainly a nod to knowing fans.
"YOU’RE REALLY GIVING US THE CLARA CINEMATIC UNIVERSE," tweeted one excited fan.
While another wrote: "The barmaid at The Rose and Crown you say? Could that be one Clara Oswald?"
Dracula continues tonight (January 2) at 9pm on BBC One.
